I have always absolutely loved cinnamon swirls, and remember eating them since I was really young. I don’t know why I’ve never thought to try and make them myself before!
I was browsing the net for new ideas of things to make when I saw this recipe on the website for “Delicious” magazine and decided to give them a try without the raisins…..not that I think they would be bad with raisins, but I wanted to make them just as I remember liking them when I was wee!
All you will need is:
- Puff pastry (I used some ready-made but if you were feeling fancy I’m sure home-made would taste better!)
- 75g butter
- 75g caster sugar (plus some extra for sprinkling)
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
Full directions on the link, but essentially just mix the butter, sugar and cinnamon into a paste, and spread onto the pastry which you have rolled out. Chill the roll before cutting into slices and chilling again.
Brush with a glaze made out of one egg beaten with 2 tbsp milk, sprinkle with some extra sugar and bake at around 200 degrees until golden.
The result? I am pleased to report that they taste every bit as good as the bought ones, and they got the seal of approval from next door neighbours who popped over just as the oven beeped! I will definitely be making these more often!!
crafty neighbours! why don’t I live closer…
Hee hee I will bring you some next time I come and see you if you like – they are v easy!
Can I have some next time you come to see us ?
Maybe maybe!
Looks scrumptious!
🙂 Have to say they tasted pretty fantastic! So hard not to eat them all straight out of the oven!
