A very quick post before a longer one tomorrow – we have just eaten a brilliant meal of crisp Chinese roast pork belly, but the side dish I made with it was surprisingly yummy for being really easy and so I thought it was worthy of its own post beforehand.
Now the original idea for tonight’s dinner had been to go and find some more mysterious fruit and veg, to post another Mystery Ingredient to follow on from the Karela, but I think we went to the shop at the wrong time of day as they didn’t have anything too exciting this time…..watch this space though as I have a couple of ideas up my sleeve!
Anyway, back to the pak choi – it’s super simple, and all you need (for a side dish to serve 2) is:
- 2-3 pak choi
- 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- dried chilli flakes
Just pull or cut the leaves off each pak choi while heating some oil in a large pan. Add the chilli and garlic and cook for a minute or so before adding the pak choi and briefly stir-frying until tender but still vibrantly green and not overcooked – about 3-4 minutes.
Can’t go wrong with pak choi, one of my fav veg, can’t grow enough of it ( in part because it bolts all the time 🙂 Thanks
Have to admit I just googled what it meant when a plant bolts – you learn something new every day! It’s fast becoming one of my favourites veggies too!
One of my favourites too. I also toss them in a little oyster sauce an a drop of sesame oil. Looking forward to the pork belly recipe!
Ooh oyster sauce and sesame oil sounds delicious – will give that a try next time! Just writing the pork post now!

I live Hong Kong and we eat Pak Choi in Oyster Sauce all the time in local restaurants. It’s soooo yummy! I’m definitely going to give your recipe a try, it sounds delicious. Must just have to make your pork to go alongside it too!
Thanks! The pork is well worth making and the pak choi side dish is a good excuse (if you needed an excuse that is!) to make it! Have just clicked onto your blog – I really like the look of the rosemary and tomato bread!
Thank you 🙂 it’s yummy and ridiculously easy. I’ll let you know how I get on with the pork!
